Will the new RAH fix our health system?

Is the decision by the SA government to replace the 800 bed Royal Adelaide hospital with a new hospital of similar size a waste of taxpayers money? The net gain of 100 beds to a congested health system at a cost of $2 billions makes the cost of each additional bed $20 million. While the debate continues throughout the media and people express their views on this potential election issue, it seems that many are missing the point. The issue with our health system is congestion (not enough beds), long waiting periods, and a lack of resources. The current solution preferred by the government fixes neither of these and is an expensive way of not fixing the problem.

Can you recall being asked if you thought this was the best option, can you recall any other options being put forward, can you recall any lengthy debates with the general public for such a major project, can you recall the government telling us what they are trying to achieve or what their objectives were - NO neither can we at politicalfixit.com, so how does our political system work? who makes these decisions on behalf of you the taxpayer? what process are in place to ensure they spend our hard earned money wisely? how do governments consult with the community? And there rest the problem with our current political system - it is just too easy for the government of the day to WASTE our hard earned money on whatever they see fit!

Our research has shown that from the general publics perspective the real issues with our health system are long waiting periods for medical procedures, unable to get to see a doctor within a reasonable time frame, lack of beds, not enough nurses and ineffciencies caused by beurocracy. The true answer lies in de-centralising our health system by building billion dollar hospitals in the suburbs to cater for a growing population, this will add resources and beds to a congested health system and remove pressures from adjacent hospitals

Once you grasp the principle of problem solving it becomes relatively easy, define the problems, produce a list of possible causes and develop solutions, how is it the our great political leaders cannot grasp this basic skill. The intent of our political system as designed by our fore fathers was to elect local members to represent there electorate region. Given the electoral region of Kaurna is so short on medical facilities, you have to ask the question of who is Mr Hill truly representing an electorate whose population has grown significantly over the years and lacks health infrastructure or following a party line to build a Tarj Mahal

Many politicians simply out of touch!

If ever you have had the pleasure of getting into the head of an academic idiot, you will be trully amazed how their brains work, they complicate simple processes, generate massive amounts of paperwork, create in-efficiencies and develop policies and procedures which are beuracratic and often based on a lack of trust. A claim form for a lump sum payment of Family tax benefit is 40 pages long with 130 questions and takes over 45 minutes to complete, it could only have been created by an academic idiot. Read the P2 requirements adjacent to this article, written by an academic idiot, compare this with Victoria's very simple system which reads "A P1 driver must not accumulate more than 5 demerit points in any 12 month period".

Barrack Obama has captured the imagination of many around the world, it is almost as though the world has been waiting for a person to enter a political system, which appears to have no representation for the average person in the street. While his academics are impressive he also brings life experiences from sheep herder to the president of the USA. These broad life experiences will make him one of the best political leaders of our time. It is a shame that most western countries lack political leaders with broad life experiences which would allow them to truly relate to the average person in the street, rather than pay us lip service.

Consider this, in the 80's there was no Privacy Act and very little information was held on you. Today you have a "Privacy Act " and everyone has your personal details. The “Privacy Act” is one such policy which is driving many insane, it is a ridiculous and nonsensical act that has created paranoia when dealing with any organisation, who continue to ask ridiculous question to prove your identity. Changing personal information for yourself & family members now take hours which 20 years ago took minutes. The "Family Tax Benefits Part A & B" used to be a simple thing called family allowance it was easy to understand and administer. Todays system is difficult to work out whether you qualify for part A or B after reading the pages and pages of information. The GLS systems for provisional drivers is that complex and rigid, even the people who made the rules struggle to understand it’s implications and the repercussions for those caught up in this ridiculous cycle.

While you and I would simply count the number of sheep in the field to determine how many sheep are grazing. These clowns will open their laptop to create a formula in a spread sheet that counts the legs and divides the number by 4, they end up not getting an whole number, so they hire a consultant at $200 per hour to prepare a report into why they did not end up with an whole number. The consultant feels this is a great opportunity to earn some cash, so he prepares a 400 page report over 6 months. The report comes to the conclusion that one of the sheep must have had a leg missing.

The politician thanks the consultant and hands over a cheque for $200,000 - sound familiar...
