If you look up the word integrity in the dictionary it is defined as "adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty". Do not confuse this with legal compliance because the two are totally seperate, you can display an action that is legal yet ethically and morally can be questiond.

What occurred at the recent state election where certain candidates from the labour party imitated Family First, handing out how to vote cards to gain a competitive advantage, was an absolute disgrace and must not be forgotten by the general public.

This is a blight on our democracy, it is no different to the sort of activity that occurs in third world countries and clearly display the character of the person who chose to use this misleading tactic. It tells you something about the person it displays their true character, it sends a message that they cannot be trusted, it tells you not to believe anything they tell you becuase they have lost credibility.

Leon Bignell is one such candidate that chose to use this deplorable tactic to questionably win the seat of Mawson, new information is now surfacing which allegedly claims his partenr was actively involved. The article in the Sunday Mail then goes on to state that his partner has been awarded $10 million in government contracts acting as a consultant to Workcover. Given the relationship of this person and her committment to the labour part you could be forgiven for thinking corruption exists at the highest level. How did her company win the contract, who else tendered for it and what was the offical selection criteria versus the publicly presented criteria often a smoke screen for governments to select who they want. This stinks and further stories will inevitably surface that will eiether support the governement or once again show how our corrupt system works.


On the surface we will be told that everything is above board, but as this website has found on numerous occassions, it is only when you start to examine the detail that you find the inaccuracies within governments. Don't you find yourself questioning that if this peson can participate in such unethical behaviour then how can we trust that she runs her business with integrity. Given woirkcover is in such a mess you are left with a huge question mark on this situation.

The fact remains that there will be a number of people who voted in the election whose vote has been cast for a person whome they did not want to vote for, because of this misleading information. It could be argued that people should be more astute but not in a particular case such as this the responsibilty clearly rest with the candidates to act with integrity and win the seat fairly based on their performance. If these people come forward and express that they have been decieved I belive the only choice is to have a re-vote in those electorates where this distatefull tactic was used, people power can be very powerful.

All too much in this day and age masses of people and business are trying to rip us off. Phone contracts which are misleading yet legal, building contracts, which are misleading yet legal, TV advertising which is misleading yet legal, photographic studios that continue to hound the general public and rip us off, ithe list goes on and on something that was not prevailent many years ago in a more honest society.

We need to stamp out this rubbish in our society, we need to develop a simple law which overrides any legal document that clearly states IF IT CAN BE CLEARLY SHOWN THAT THE INTENT WAS TO MISLEAD THEN THE JUDGE WILL RULE UNFAVOURABLY AGAINST THEM. This will stamp out this unsavourable practice which has reached epidemic proportions in our society that we are starting to think it is ok, well I have news for you it is not OK.

The reality is that this labour government has become and remains arrogant, and thisincident clearly shows that nothing has changed. Arrogance can be seen as promotion to a candiate who has just clearly participated in unethical behaviour, or a minister who had an appaling driving record yet gains more ministerial responsibilites.

This government say they want to re-connect with the people yet seem incapable of doing so, it is clearly lip service to fool the majority, but those of us more astute will watch every move and eventually the time will come when the average person in the street becomes fed up and our corrupt political system will be changed for ever.
